Lesson 1: Making your first beaded necklace
In this lesson, you will learn:
- terms for basic tools and materials
- to determine a desirable length for your necklace
- to cut the appropriate length of wire for your necklace
- to design a necklace with design principles in mind
- to make simple pendants or charms
- to add clasps to beading wire
Step 3: Design your necklace.

a. Watch the presentation to hear a discussion of design principles and to get ideas from the pictured examples of single strand necklaces. As you look through the examples, think about what makes each one different and interesting. When you see ones that you like, think about the specific features that appeal to you. Then, when design your own necklace, don't try to copy any of the examples, but instead create your own variations of the ideas you see in the examples. |
b. Use your bead board to work out the design of your necklace. The bead board is marked with lengths along its outer border. Lay out your beads within the desired length you determined in Step 1. |
